Dental assisting externships develop incredible job opportunities. Landing a job interview is only half of the process, here are a few tips for interviewing.

COMMUNICATION IS #1

Consistent communication before, during, and after the interview is key. When you call the dental office or drop off your resume, leave a specific way to reach you; email or phone number is best.

SHOW GENUINE INTEREST

Research the dentist and the company you will be interviewing for. By asking specific questions about what you’ve learned about them, you’ll inspire real conversation, and the interviewee will know you’re already knowledgeable about the company and interested.

BE AVAILABLE. BE FLEXIBLE.

When scheduling your interview, be flexible. If scheduling and attending the interview is easy for the dental office, they’ll have confidence that you’ll be flexible and available when it comes to working the externship, and perhaps working professionally at the clinic thereafter.

BE WILLING TO START RIGHT AWAY

During the interview, they’ll ask you for your availability. Let them know that you’re ready to start right away. Be excited, eager, and ready to hit the ground running at their earliest opening.

BE YOURSELF

Show your personality off during the interview. It’s really your time to show the company why you’d be a great fit. If you’re new to job interviews, find ways to practice. It’s not always easy to be yourself with a stranger, but with practice you’ll know how to smile, relax, and be confident.
